Seek a Cease-Fire in the Middle East

Peace Action believes that sovereign nations always have the right to protect themselves, but that right can never be exercised through attacks on civilian infrastructure and populations. An immediate cease-fire is required to halt the bloodshed, and the United States, which provides Israel with essential financial backing as well as many of the weapons being used in the current attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, has both the responsibility and the power to bring a halt to the current round of violence through pressure on Israel and persuasion within the international community.

Contact President Bush and Congress today. The most effective way to reach them is via the telephone numbers listed below. Alternately, you can use our form below to email your Congress person. If you send an email, be sure to personalize it, it makes a huge difference in how effective your letter is!

Peace ActionSeek a Cease-Fire in the Middle East

As one of your constituents and a member of Peace Action, I am writing to implore you to work with Congress and the President to seek an immediate cease-fire in the Middle East.

As the crisis grows, with the continued Israeli military incursion in the Gaza Strip and escalating, daily attacks between the Israeli armed forces and Hezbollah guerillas in Lebanon, I implore you take action at this critical time. Hundreds of civilians have already been killed, and our government’s rhetoric and actions are not helping resolve the situation.

I look forward to hearing from you on how you will respond to the current crisis in the Middle East.

Is the Hezbollah jumping on this bandwagon? Perhaps they will stop with the missles that land willy nilly if you ask them real nice.

prying1... I doubt they will... But the real question is why is Israel bombing parts of the country that have nothing to do with Hezbollah. They don't have to bomb fuel tanks at the Int. airport or the power plants that supply electricity to country, etc... et al... If they want to bomb something let them bomb the Baka'a Valley where Hezbollah rockets are coming from... They don't have to kill innocent people just because the terrorists kill innocent people... or do they... I have not checked with mAnn Coulter or Sean Hannity...

FC,

They bomb the airport so they can't move the two soldiers out of Lebanon very easily, the bomb the power stations to cut off the power to Hezbollah. You it is pretty easy to explain the actions of Israel, but it is people like you that seem to think that the only wqay to deal with terrorists is to give in and maybe they will stop.

This whole situation began when Hezbollah decided that they were going to kidnap two Israeli soldiers to use them as bargaining chips to get their terrorists brothers that are sitting in Israeli prisons. Just because that is a common practice is Arab world, Israel doesn't play that game and instead hit back hard and unfortunately Hezbollah put their strongholds deep within Southern Beirut and that put thousands of Lebanese citizens in harms way.

So if anytrhing you liberals should be focusing your anger toward the terrorists (Hezbollah) who caused the whole mess. Instead you would rather put all the blame on Israel and President Bush. But I would expectt hat from all you Bush bashers.

Jon...
The Israeli themselves are admiting they have botched it up so far. They have killed innocent people. They have not stopped the rockets red glare. They now have to commit ground troops which will lead to more dead Israeli. They look incompetent. They now face a rats nest of tunnels and bunkers that they did not anticipate, just as we did in Vietnam. Their incompetence only fuels the terrorists pride at having survived the initial onslaught of the second most powerful army on earth...

As much as you would like to think, I do not condone or support forken terrorists. When innocent people die, it lessens humanity. Defense and offensive carelessness are not the same thing.

Where blame is to be laid at Bush's feet, history will prove that his incompetence is to blame and not the fault of liberals who are just pointing it out and neocon apologists and enablers who are excusing it.

I would have to go on record as asking our government to support the push for peace.... the peace that can only come through VICTORY. Defeat Hezbollah soundly, and peace will surely follow. Pull out without doing the job, and the attacks will continue forever.

I agree that peace should be a priority. Defeating Hezbollah is a tall order even for Israel. Without the government of Lebanon making a drastic effort to control Hezbollah and replace the local humanitarian efforts they provide the local shia, I can see no winning. The efforts to quell guerilla/terroristic factions throughout history have all fallen short. Modern technology seems to have made a very small dent in it as evidenced by the insurgents in Iraq.

I have no answers. I only question the innocent loss of life on either side of these wars.

Prying1, Jon, and Guppyman willfully support the real terrorists. Israel and the USA. More innocent people have been killed by the real terrorists in the last 10 years than all the bogeymen that those three call "terrorists" put together.

Those fools are authoritarian wannabees, and willing slaves to their masters. They cant handle the truth because it is too upsetting to their fragile good guy/bad guy world views. They think the USA are the good guys.

FC, keep up the good work. Don't let the droppings from these habitual trolls rag on you.

I applaud your post, but now the USA has lost power and stature in the world, and your huge deficits will soon see a massive flight of capital. The military is over-extended, and the Treasury is bare. Its possible that Syria and Iran will join in, maybe even Turkey (that wants Kurdish northern Iraq.) I fear the cards that are left to play are not good, and it will look grimmer!

Anon,

Why don't you go to the Middle East and join the terrorist you so blatantly support, to even attempt to call Israel and the US terrorist is the most obsurd thing I have ever heard come out of a liberal.

Your war criminal terrorist hero in the White House has killed more people than all the 'terrists' put together.

His policies are the greatest danger to peace in the middle east that has ever existed.

Who are these real terrorists? Who are the masters? Who are you? We're fighting, in backing Israel, an existential struggle against the forces of violence and disorder in the world. Israel's a sovereign state, recognized under international law (at least among first world states), and possesses the right of self-defense against unprovoked aggression. This blog, and blogs like it, with its anti-Americanism, just prolong international conflict by aiding and abetting those against whom we fight.

Go Israel!

Donald Douglas...

NeoCon freak...

War is the answer... Military industrial complex is the economic solution to properity, especially if you are Israel and the American taxpayers foot the bill, making the planes, bombs and bullets and just give them to you... If you incur the wrath of the International Community by bulldozing a few Palestinians, don't worry the U.S. will veto any pesky U.N. resolutions that might try to require Israel to be responsible for it's actions... What's wrong with a little torture, rendition and secret prisons amoung friendly nations... Who needs all those personal freedoms and privacy rights when there are Patriotic forever wars to fight... Don't worry your beautiful mind about innocent men, women and children screaming in horror at the rockets red glare, bomb bursting in air, someone else's children proudly fight them there so we don't have to fight them here... Don't try to find solutions to underlying problems when it is so much easier to bolster nationalistic pride and go marching off to war... War is always the answer...
